Coconut Cashew Cocoa Bailey’s Strawberry and Cream Panna cotta

February 1, 2019 By Asha Shivakumar

An impressively easy dessert, bailey’s strawberry and cream panna cotta will make anyone smile. It’s light and it’s decadent, both at the same time. The crunch from the tart base compliments this smooth panna cotta.

I carry around a list in my brain… a list of things that I’m in love with.  Actively in love with, everyday… just walking around in the world.

I’m in love with fresh flowers at home, big and small rings, my not so perfect black cotton dress, girls who carry themselves with ease that I covet, planners, writing small notes of love to family members, the diffuser that has lemon essence in it, sit and day dream.

This is aside from loving the people and pets around me.  This love is separate from family and friends.  This love sometimes steps to the back of my mind and I’m left feeling a little blaaaaaahhh…. until all the love comes rushing back and I remember that I’m totally in love with my life. I LOVE falling in love with life….

Kohlrabi/Noolkol Edamame Fry |Foodfashionparty| #southindianrecipes #kohlrabirecipesI’m always curious about other people’s comfort food.  The stuff you eat when you’re sick or sad.  I feel like it tells you so much about that person, where they came from, what they turn to feel better.

And when I ask people so many secrets spill out, gooey mushy nostalgic childhood food, some’s grandmother’s mutton, someone else who goes to a tiny box-line restaurant in old Shivajinagar for the flavors of that chicken that’s unbeatable, some else, who makes an elaborate meal from scratch to lose themselves in the method and to forget….

Game Day Jalapeno Cheese Chips Crisps

January 24, 2019 By Asha Shivakumar

This post is sponsored by BabbleBoxx.com on behalf of popchips.  This is the perfect game day snack – a great-tasting, crunchy, better-for-you option and tasty. Top it cheese and some jalapenos for the extra oomph.

Game Day Jalapeno Cheese Chips Crisps |foodfashionparty| #popchips #gamedaysnacks #healthygamedaysnacksFootball season is here! Do you entertain? Go out weekly for games? It is such a tempting time to sit around with friends, drinking and eating all sorts of delicious, yet unhealthy foods. This clean eating game day recipe will be a hit with everyone.  while we can always use a solid recipe for wings and probably a few, the snack spread on its own is highly anticipated. Right now, we’re particularly obsessed with the chips and dip portion of the event.

As far as game day dips and chips go, some stand by the more classic tortilla + guac combo, while some go carrot + hummus. With so many options out there—for both chips and dips— I wanted to show a healthy alternative. Popchips….

Karahi Chicken- Kadai Chicken

January 23, 2019 By Asha Shivakumar

This flavorful karahi chicken uses fresh spices, tomatoes and slow cooked. The chicken is coated with the spices and tomato and makes for a very flavorful unique curry.  I am so happy to be sharing my recipe for the best karahi chicken.

Best Karahi Chicken |foodfashionparty| #karahichicken #indianchickencurry

Everyone loves a restaurant style curry, but homemade is something special, healthier and more flavorful. Karahi chicken is one of my go to dishes to order when I’m at an Indian restaurant. It’s even special  if you raid that spice cabinet and make everything from scratch.

When you eat out at an Indian restaurant, chances are that they’ll have Kadai/Karahi Chicken on the menu. It’s a popular north Indian dish that’s made with a few freshly ground whole spices and is known for it’s incredible flavor. It’s a simple, spicy dish and is traditionally made in a cast iron wok, but you can use a dutch oven or large saute pan instead….

Sweet Pongal / Sakkarai Pongal / Ven Pongal |Foodfashionparty| #pongal #sakkaraipongalPongal / Sankranti to all who celebrate!! When they say India is a land of festivals, it is true.  We probably have a festival every month of the year.  The crazy part is that they are not small festivals; each one is big.  Pongal is a harvest festival dedicated to Sun God. It’s a celebration of the first crop.  It’s celebrated over four days, each day with its own significance.  You can read more about the mythology and significance behind Pongal here.…

Patod Ki Sabzi - Crispy Chickpea Cakes in Yogurt Spinach Almond Gravy |foodfashionparty| #curry #chickpeacakesFood is such an important, driving force in our lives. We share and create some of our most important stories surrounded by food. It comforts us, nourishes us, and heals us. So far, I haven’t met one who didn’t have a special dish or fond food memory to look back on.

Eons ago….

I’ve come to my friend’s place for a sleepover.  There is a game of rummy going on upstairs. While I am expected to be with the teens…… …

Bengali Pumpkin Aloo Posto – Stir fry Pumpkin and potatoes with poppy seeds

This Aloo Posto is a classic example of how just a few ingredients can yield a creamy spiced potato dish. A staple in Bengali households and one of my all time favorite recipes.

I love January and it’s everyday-ness. I’m glad for a regular pulse again. The holidays are great but it’s the stillness that I crave at the end of it all. We spent the holidays binge watching “How I met your mother” and a small skii trip to Aspen.  We ate home made comfort food and listened to Paul Anka, on my teen’s new record player to fill the house with something… normal….

Moroccan Guava Almond Phyllo Cake aka Snake cake/ M’hanncha

December 17, 2018 By Asha Shivakumar

Traditional Moroccan dessert, Moroccan Guava Almond Phyllo Cake M’hanncha/snake cake is made with filo pastry and almond filling, scented with orange blossom water and cardamom. Here we’ve used guava paste and cream cheese for that nontraditional modern touch. M’hanncha means coiled snake, name given because of the shape. It is easy to make and the taste is simply divine!

Moroccan Guava Almond Phyllo Cake M'hanncha/snake cake |foodfashionparty| #moroccondessert #christmasdessertWhen I began blogging in 2013 I was completely blown away by the prolific community of food writers and home cooks who shared their stories and their inspiration on the web. Come to think of it, I barely visited blogs let alone food blogs, until giving it all a go myself… It was one of those “jump before looking how deep the water was first” sort of things. Needless to say, I spent countless hours pouring over gorgeous, articulate web pages, trying to learn as much as I could. Beautiful photos, authentic writing, original tested recipes, and authenticity was incredibly inspiring….

Kanchipuram Idlis with Millets / Millets Kotte Kadbu

December 8, 2018 By Asha Shivakumar

Soft & Spongy loaded with spices is a healthy breakfast.  This recipe of millets idli is a mix of kanchipuram idli and Kotte Kadbu, the spices come from Kanchipuram idli and the shape comes from Kotte Kadbu from Karnataka region.  It makes for a great anytime meal.

Kanchipuram Idlis with Millets / Millets Idli- Kotte Kadbu |foodfashionparty| #milletsidli #southindianfoodDriving through Bangalore highways, passing through mountains that are brown and rocky is an experience in itself.  While traffic inside the city can go at snail speed, the drivers take every opportunity to speed through the impressive four lane highway.  The highway that connects Bangalore to Mysore is called Nice Road, and was made only a few years ago.  It’s a boon.

After a couple of hours of drive, we stop by this popular highway restaurant.

We enter the crowded restaurant.  The air is filled with the smell of spicy sambhar and ghee.  Some are dressed in elegant sarees ready to go to a wedding, some are casual like us, like how we feel.  Everyone seems to be excited for their destination….
