Broccoli Cauliflower Goat Cheese Quinoa Patties |foodfashionparty| #quinoapatties #foodphotographyHappy New Week you guys!!

I find it a little challenging to eat healthily while having all the good flavors, with portion control.  When summer hits, it’s especially a little hard to maintain a decent lifestyle in terms of food.  With the boys home, there’s a little bit of indulgent food, a lot of comfort food, and in between, I try to squeeze in some healthy food too….

South Indian Spicy Tomato Chicken Curry/Koduvai Chicken Varuval

August 4, 2018 By Asha Shivakumar

This family-style Indian chicken curry is loaded with heat and spices, and it’s authentic as it gets. The chili oil, the fresh spices, and the technique makes this is a very uniquely flavorful chicken curry.  This South Indian Style Spicy Tomato Chicken, aka Koduvai Chicken Varuval, is a must make.

South Indian Chicken Curry-Tomato Chicken/Koduvai Chicken Varuval |foodfashionparty| #indianfood #chickencurryIf there’s one thing my hubby often craves, it’s puri (boori) chicken.  He is from Tiruppur, and his mom’s family lived in a small place called Koduvai.  Till date, when he visits Coimbatore (where his parents live now), he makes sure to visit his mom’s old town.  I see a sense of pleasure as he describes the village.  Old roads, thatched roofs, verandas, kolam (a design drawn out of rice) in front of every home.  He visited his grandmum’s home where he went on vacations, got pampered by his aunts, fed endlessly by his grandmum and rode the cow to his heart’s content.  He’s the favorite grandson and nephew to all, I can see why….

3 Days in SanFrancisco – Food and Travel Guide

August 2, 2018 By Asha Shivakumar

“San Francisco has only one drawback.  T’is hard to leave.” – Rudyard Kipling. 3 days in San Francisco is all you need to see everything and you’ll never leave.

3 Days in San Francisco - Food and Travel Guide #sanfranciscotravel #3daysinSanfranciscoThe coldest winter I saw is summer in San Francisco, is a popular quote and it is right.  San Francisco can get very cold and windy.  So plan on wearing layers and comfortable shoes to walk in.  The streets are all zig zag, just vertically:-).  I am proud to call this my city and I’ve traveled quite a lot, and San Francisco remains one of my favorite cities in the world. For a place that has less than one million people, San Francisco has definitely pushed above its weight in terms of contributions to the world….

Bailey's Tiramisu Ice cream Sandwich |foodfashionparty| #baileysicecream #tiramisuWrapping July up with this delicious combo.  July was also #nationalicecream month, and here in San Francisco, summer means bundling up in jackets and woollies the moment the sun goes down or the fog rolls in. Nevertheless, we are always ready to be lined up at an artisanal ice cream place.  If a sunny Sunday should occur, supreme patience is required for your favorite scoop at your favorite spot….

Spicy Corn Cashew Chickpea Sabzi/Stir Fry

July 24, 2018 By Asha Shivakumar

This is an easy summer dish that goes great with rotis, quesadilas, rolls, sandwiches, and more. This corn cashew chickpea sabzi/stir fry is best made with fresh corn and one of the easiest sides on a warm day.

Spicy Corn Cashew Chickpea Sabzi/Stir Fry |foodfashionparty| #cornside #cornstirfry #cornsabziWhile this could’ve been a very bittersweet summer, it turned out to be buoyant.  We (or maybe it was just me 😉 ) wanted our boy who just graduated to take a gap year, and he came to a happy medium and decided to take a semester off, YAY to that!!  So, I have another few months until he flies off to the other end of the country to follow his dreams….

Guava Coconut Frangipane Tart

July 24, 2018 By Asha Shivakumar

A tropical bakewell tart: this guava coconut frangipane tart is a classic with a twist. The addition of guava paste is a delicious touch to this nutty tart . It’s a great picnic cake, travels well.

Guava Coconut Frangipane Tart |foodfashionparty #guavadesserts #frangipanetart Connections are made every day. Sometimes they’re large or life changing. Other times they’re as simple as a smile to a passerby on the street or stopping to observe Spring’s first flowers pushing through the cool, heavy earth. These little connections are made everyday whether you stop to take notice or not.

One connection that continues to intrigue and inspire me is food. It’s amazing to think that one little seed, when loved and cared for, grows into something that nourishes the body and mind. That those little seeds make a meal that I can then share with friends and family, making even further connections, that soon become memories of those meals and times past….

The Ultimate 3 days in LA- Food and Travel Diary

July 24, 2018 By Asha Shivakumar

3 days in LA. Los Angeles isn’t the celebrity and paparazzi-filled La-la-land it’s made out to be in the movies and TV. It is, however, a beautiful, diverse and sometimes confounding city. If you’re visiting for the first time, it’s easy to get wrapped up in the gridlock and sprawl and lose sight of what makes Los Angeles such a unique destination.

Top things to do in LA. The Ultimate 3 days in LA- Food and Travel Diary |foodfashionparty| #LAtraveldiary #traveltoLAIf you plan on going to Los Angeles, three days is a good time to see all the fun places and experience all the good food LA has to offer. And if exploring is what you are doing, then you definitely need a car to get around. I do not recommend taxis or Ubers unless you are staying within one area, because they can get pricey. LA traffic can be a little bit crazy, so give yourself a good cushion if you have to get to a particular place. Here’s 3 days in LA plan that we did and it’s fun….

Cauliflower Chili Stir Fry aka Chili Ghobi

July 22, 2018 By Asha Shivakumar

Home style Chili Ghobi aka Cauliflower stir fry is spicy, delicious and nutritious. It’s an easy Indian side dish, requiring only a few ingredients. It goes perfect side with rotis or chapathis.

Cauliflower Chili Stir Fry aka Chili Ghobi #veganside #indianfoodphotography #cauliflowercurryLife is a journey, and this journey is all about change and evolution. Friendships are just like that. It has the honeymoon phase, the lull period, blossoming friendship, wanting something more, the end, or the friendship that lasts forever.   I’ve tried hard to understand its nuances, but I usually just go with the flow.

I’ve realized over the years that I am OK with change, both in relationships and friendships.  We start liking someone and their company, for what they are.  The things you admire about someone in the first place might become quite annoying as you get closer to them….

Tastiest Chicken Black bean Mole Enchiladas |foodfashionparty| #chickenenchilada #molesauce

“Nobody tells this to people who are beginners, I wish someone told me. All of us who do creative work, we get into it because we have good taste. But there is this gap. For the first couple years you make stuff, it’s just not that good. It’s trying to be good, it has potential, but it’s not. But your taste, the thing that got you into the game, is still killer. And your taste is why your work disappoints you. A lot of people never get past this phase, they quit. Most people I know who do interesting, creative work went through years of this. We know our work doesn’t have this special thing that we want it to have. We all go through this. And if you are just starting out or you are still in this phase, you gotta know its normal and the most important thing you can do is do a lot of work. Put yourself on a deadline so that every week you will finish one story. It is only by going through a volume of work that you will close that gap, and your work will be as good as your ambitions. And I took longer to figure out how to do this than anyone I’ve ever met. It’s gonna take awhile. It’s normal to take a while. You’ve just gotta fight your way through.”

200 Year Old Recipe – Sri Lankan Mixed Vegetable Curry

July 14, 2018 By Asha Shivakumar

This two hundred year old recipe, a Sri Lankan Mixed Vegetable Curry, is inspired by a popular restaurant in Colombo.  It has a nice level of spice, creaminess with the coconut milk, and a great texture with all kinds of different vegetables.

200 yr old recipe of Sri Lankan Mixed Vegetable Curry |foodfashionparty| #srilankanvegetablcurry #curry“If I’m an advocate for anything, it’s to move. As far as you can see, as much as you can.  Across the ocean or simply across the river.  The extent you can walk in someone else’s shoes, or atleast eat their food, it’s a plus for everybody. Open your mind, get up of the couch, and move.”  Anthony Bourdain.

Anthony Bourdain was special.  What a loss!…
