SPICY FENNEL ROASTED BABY POTATOES

December 4, 2014 By Asha Shivakumar

SPICY FENNEL ROASTED POTATOES

Welcome to my new space!!!

I hope all of you had a great Thanksgiving!

We did, and I am excited for my new little space here.

When the thoughts of writing snippets along with food came to mind, blogging was the way to go.  Since I procrastinate so much, it helped that my then 12 yr old opened up a blogger account and jumpstarted the blog. That’s the story of how this blog was created.

BROWN BUTTER PUMPKIN CAKE with CARDAMOM AND SAFFRON

HAPPY THANKSGIVING EVERYONE!

There are a couple of reasons I am super hyped for this post.

One: Cardamom and Saffron, a match made in food world, is not only a favorite of mine but also of many.  Isn’t there something great about it?.  Close your eyes and think of those two spices.  The warmth and the sweetness just engulfs you.

ALMOND AND SAFFRON VALENTINE PIES

February 12, 2014 By Asha Shivakumar

ALMOND AND SAFFRON PIES

Friendship Day was the most popular college celebration I knew of when I was growing up.  Seriously, I never celebrated Valentine’s Day until the last year of my graduation. It was so interesting and fun to see girls buying cards for their Valentine. They got so giddy over it!

On Valentine’s Day, you could see girls dressed their best. They wait for their Valentine to come with red roses.  Few guys did come, and the rest were jealous.  The four(my friends and I) did not have much excitement on the day and tried to get past the day without being too embarrassed or annoyed. This happened for years.

PISTACHIO BUTTER COOKIES WITH WALNUTS

PISTACHIO BUTTER COOKIES WITH WALNUTS

Every Christmas was very special as a kid.  Dad made it quite memorable for me. It was the festive season, and he made sure it was remembered fondly.

There is a bakery in Bangalore(India), a very famous one, NILGIRIS.  They had/have a Christmas Cake Show which showcases beautiful pieces of art which were huge: the TAJ MAHAL, Titanic, Barbie dolls, castles, chariots, sports players, completely made of cake. The cake artists took weeks to mold and remold. There were rows and rows of exhibits. Kids gaped at those wonders and almost wanted to touch it.

Figs and Hazelnut Cookies 1

All last weekend I craved for cookies, not any cookie but a cookie which was different.  As far as my cookie craving went, it had to have figs(I had em’ sitting in my pantry for days staring at me), had to have hazelnut spread and should be great to pack as a gift.

I’ve wanted to make these for months now. The time was right, I had a few hours to myself, the first box of cookies that I made to give friends are here.

SKILLET CORNBREAD with Jalapenos and Chives

November 22, 2013 By Asha Shivakumar

Skillet Cornbread with Jalapenos 1

It is Grandma’s Recipe and it is GOOD.

My trainer, he is something.  He loves food, and gets excited when I bring him lemon cupcakes, his favorite. I sometimes wonder how he enjoys his desserts and competes in body building competitions.  Well he does believe in moderation and asks me to enjoy everything.

We have a mutual love for food. And yes, we do talk about food every once in a while when training. Hey, when I am working my shoulders, the thought of a good bread afterwards is the only thing which makes me finish my sets.

  SPICED PEPPER PUMPKIN DINNER ROLLS-1

Do you watch cooking shows guys? Anything particular you like?
We are officially addicted to ‘Cutthroat Kitchen’.  Has anyone seen it? It’s Alton Brown hosting the show and I love him.
Can you imagine cooking with shears?, seriously, how do they even come up with concepts like that.  So many sabotages, curve balls and a lot of cash involved.

Hope your week is going good my friends.

It’s been a good one for us.  It is festival season, so lot of dressing up, dancing and eating.  All the great greasy food we are enjoying is clearly been taken care of by the dancing, if not I will have a lot of pounds to run off in 2014.:)

Teen(still composed)- “Give him a thinking time.”

Me(sighing)..”I just want to get my dinner ready, and I’ll deal with this later”.
