Pesto with Candied Balsamic Cashews on Focaccia

October 14, 2015 By Asha Shivakumar

Pesto with Candied Balsamic Walnuts on Focaccia

We still are wearing our open toed sandals and sundresses.  I think we are going to jump to Winter, skipping Fall.  There is not a lot of foliage here.  The only sign of fall are the squash and pumpkins.
I miss the chill, we need some rain.

On the bright side, I found some beautiful tomatoes in Cali and it’s crazy 91 degrees.

30 minute Broccoli Pizza with Roasted Garlic Pesto and Feta Cheese

July 16, 2015 By Asha Shivakumar

30 minute Broccili Pizza with Rosted Garlic Pesto-Feta Cheese

“Who puts broccoli on a pizza?!”  If you have seen Inside Out, you probably know exactly what I’m referring too.

We finally got to see the movie Inside Out.  As I was munching on my popcorn, I was oblivious to what was coming next.  I literally spit and started laughing when the broccoli scene came.  It just seemed so surreal.  I don’t want to give away too much in case you plan to watch.

I’m not the biggest fan of animated movies.  I got dragged into this.  I have to say the imagination maestros outdid themselves.  Ah!  The way that the Inside Out writers chose to tell the story is gorgeous, complicated, and crazily imaginative: inside the control room of the protagonist’s mind.  It covers a whole range of emotions and feelings.  It makes you think.

Spicy Mango Masala Chicken

July 3, 2015 By Asha Shivakumar

Spicy Mango Masala Chicken

There are many words to describe food. Three words to describe this chicken, no cliché here, are  “FINGER LICKING GOOD.”

This recipe was definitely an accident, a happy and yummy accident.

This is a re-post from few years ago. I’ve made it a number of times. Yesterday I made a huge batch of the mango barbecue sauce and decided to click some better quality pictures, if you know what I mean. I haven’t deleted the old post. If you’d like to see the old pictures and how this recipe came to be, here’s the link for the original Mango Chicken.

Momos Manchurian – Vegetarian Dumplings

May 14, 2015 By Asha Shivakumar

Momos Manchurian (Vegetarian Dumplings)

I forget how I exactly got introduced to momos or when.  I know one thing, I love them.

I went through a stage a few years ago when I researched about various cuisines of India, few countries too and wrote about them in my note book(which I thought I’d publish one day). I was so intrigued by local food of different countries.  I tried speaking  to friends from those regions, learnt how to make some authentic food(I tried). I could have a conversation about local cuisine to people and that felt good.  Don’t know what happened to that book or that enthusiasm.  I can go on and on about the various types of dishes  I’ve learnt, but I’ll bore you’ll next time.  Today it’s about the beautiful country, Nepal where Momos are a popular delicacy.

FLOURLESS FIG-ALMOND CHOCOLATE CAKE

December 31, 2014 By Asha Shivakumar

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

FLOURLESS CHOCOLATE-FIG CAKE
In many ways, our world is a small one. Sometimes it can be glamorous, and sometimes it can be a very laid back one. The familiar routine suits me quite well. The  sameness of it all is a very warm feeling. There’s a security in knowing that the familiarity is around, and that gives me a lot of contentment.

This year, among all, I’m thankful for my beloved familiarity around me. The regularity is a luxury I am most happy to enjoy.

I truly feel blessed.  CHEERS to a Healthy, Happy, and Contented Year!!  Virtual Hugs to all of my dear blogger and non-blogger friends….

White Hot Chocolate with Coconut Milk

December 14, 2014 By Asha Shivakumar

White Hot Chocolate with Coconut Milk

It was a welcome pleasure.

As I got down from the car, the winds hit me in my face at 60 mph (at least it felt like it).  My hair was flying everywhere. I hadn’t read or listened to the news.  After picking up  the boys, my older one went on and on about how there is going to be a big storm coming our way.  Not knowing the severeness, I turned on the radio station. …

GIFT BASKET-Hot Chocolate gift basket

December 9, 2014 By Asha Shivakumar

GIFT BASKET-Hot Chocolate gift basket

We are a bunch of hot chocolate lovers. Now, that comes with its own disadvantages. The drink has to be a certain consistency; the teen needs it a bit bitter, and the little one needs it lighter. So my hot chocolate is always a bit on the thicker side.

This recipe is quite a rich chocolate drink and quite an indulgence.

DARING BAKERS – Chocolate Tart

June 27, 2013 By Asha Shivakumar

All you need is love.  But a little chocolate now and then doesn’t hurt. – Charles M. Shulz.

Chocolate tart

Chocolate haunts me.  Let’s face it we either love or hate chocolate.  Do you Love chocolate or Hate it?

With every kind of chocolate in my pantry, you can easily guess how much I use it and enjoy it. My  coffee gets a dose some days and that’s a treat.

So, it came as a pleasant surprise when I saw a message from DARING BAKERS. This month’s challenge is hosted by the very talented Rachel from
PizzaRossa  Being my first with Daring Bakers Challenge, I smiled with excitement.  I’ve always admired the recipes they put out and how impressive the final result turns out.

MAY RESTAURANT REVIEWS – 3 top Places to EAT in the Bay

May 10, 2013 By Asha Shivakumar

“After a good dinner, one can forgive anybody, even one’s own relations.”-Oscar Wilde.

San Francisco is a hub for culture and cuisine, famously called as the bohemian city with a sensual palate.  Frisco’s culinary journey has come a long way, you name it and you will find it..  Also known as  the mother of many original recipes, SF offers  a variety in experience and food. With a bucket list of restaurant’s, it is intriguing but you don’t wanna fall prey to the hype of many.    Now with social media and search engines, the  outlook on restaurants is completely different.  You can yelp and find any restaurant and every detail of it.  But ultimately it’s you who decides where you wanna go, your expectations and experience.

For me going out and dining has to be a pleasurable experience,  FOOD has to be exceptional.  I don’t dine out often…so for me I am choosy about what and where I wanna go.  I like to experiment with food of different cultures.  Dining out for many of us can be for different reasons..But, at the end of it, we should enjoy our meal and the experience whether is fine dining or casual one.
