Tiramisu French Toast

January 29, 2021 By Asha Shivakumar

This Tiramisu French toast is a twist to the classic treat. It’s so delicious and unbelievably easy. This Tiramisu French toast recipe is made with coffee, cocoa and liqueur  soaked brioche, buttery and topped with creamy mascarpone , and cocoa powder dusted on top.

Tiramisu French Toast #tiramisufrenchtoast #frenchtoastJump-to-RecipeI’m a morning person. I drink my coffee, I love my sunrise runs, but, I don’t care for breakfast. And you are a morning person? you ask;-). Yup. I’m that annoying person who is stupidly cheerful first thing. I love the early morning light and the birds chirping and dewy grass and a cuppa coffee.

I wasn’t a no-breakfast person growing up. Mom had the most delicious south Indian breakfast ready for me by 8.00 a.m and I didn’t have to move a finger.  It was downright comfort home cooking. Weekends were different though. Dad took out his apron and the only vintage beater we had. The one with two whips, a handle to turn the whip.. remember?…. Good quality bread was key. A classic french toast, one of my dad’s specialties. It was simple: eggs, milk, sugar and cardamom. “Whip till it froths, dip the bread for no more than ten seconds on each side”, he said. Ghee laden, crispy and the best french toast. I enjoyed it! Those mornings felt very hoity-toity, with forks and all, nothing like my usual….

Basic Banana Bread with Olive Oil and Maple Syrup |foodfashionparty| #bestbananabread #basicbananabreadJump To Recipe

Banana Bread needs no introduction. It’s cake like, easy and feels decadent and makes for a great treat.

One of my favorite recipe for Banana Bread uses ricotta and is decadent. Although I like the fancy, I make this simple basic banana bread version most of the time.

To make the very basic best banana bread that comes out super moist, it is important to start out with those ugly, overripe bananas!   They need to be a dark yellow with lots of browning.  The riper the bananas, the more moist your bread will be and the more banana flavor it will have!…

Churro French Toast Sandwich with Hazelnut Spread |foodfashionparty| #churro #valentinesdaytreatWho doesn’t love churros?  Everyone loves them.  From scratch, even better.

The next best thing are these French Toast Churros sandwiches that I stuffed with Hazelnut spread and Peanut butter-jelly.

A few days ago, my little one asked me what I wanted for valentines and I said, “nothing much my dear.”  But, chocolate would be good.  Then he goes on to ask, “do you have a recipe on your blog that is simple one, so I can make it for you…”? Which was too sweet of him. He wanted to make churros for me(partly because he was craving it:)….

Gluten Free Millet Roti – Softest and Easy Rotis

October 8, 2018 By Asha Shivakumar

Two ingredients, one important step, and you have the easiest and softest gluten free roti there is.  This gluten free roti stays soft for two days if wrapped well.

Gluten Free Roti with Millets - Softest and Easy Rotis |foodfashionparty| #glutenfreeroti #glutenfreeflatbreadThe minute I posted my quick naan recipe, I started getting requests for a fail-proof roti.  I somehow missed sharing wheat rotis.  I’ve been on a gluten-free journey the last couple of months and have been experimenting with different grains.  We make rice roti which is gluten-free.  However, it is a bit thick and heavy and hence doesn’t really go well with sabzis. So, when I started sharing my experiments on social media with whole grain rotis, I have had a sea of requests for a foolproof gluten free roti that stays soft for a long time….

You have to taste the culture to understand it.

We travel for many reasons.  To explore, for love, for glory, for adventure, for thrills, to get away from reality, to relax.  For the new and the familiar, for sensory thrills and serenity, for socialization and isolation, for risk and reward, for the journey and the story and the secrets.  I travel for all these reasons.  Which is all just another way of saying that I travel to eat….

Pumpkin Butter with Cardamom - Pull apart Bread

It is the season of festivals for Indians.  Starts around September and goes on till mid November.

‘Ayudha Pooja’, that’s what we celebrate in the Southern Part of India this week.  It is a very interesting festival.  Ayudha means weapons/instruments.  On this day, we pay our respect to all the regular household items we use.  Knifes, screw drivers, hammer, calculator, you name it, if we can keep it for prayers, we will.

Multigrain Seed Fig-Nuts Energy Bread

March 25, 2015 By Asha Shivakumar

Multigrain Seed Fig-Nuts Power Bread

Tucked in between the jalapeno bread, onion bagels, and dinner rolls in the fresh baked section in my neighborhood grocery store is this rectangular piece of bread which reads ‘Energy Bread.’  A few years ago I bagged a few, and I have been a regular customer of this energy bread since.  I cannot promise that your energy will go up after eating this, but I do like the wholeness, the texture, and the mild sweetness of the bread.

I was inspired and had to recreate it. How difficult could it be to bake them right?

Mocha Walnut Bread 3

Somethings are great in theory.
Like the Mazda Miata I wanted. Can you imagine driving the kids and carpooling?..NO, so not practical.
Like the beautiful apple tree we bought and thought that we would see apples in couple of years, it’s got the same number of leaves on it as the day we bought it.
Like the good intention to wake up at 4.00 a.m. for my workout.
Like the time we wanted a dog.  We dog sat our friend’s little shih tzu and we loved him.  Just that he loved my sandals too, he would nag us to take him out every time.  I love animals, but in no rush to get one.

Do you have a green thumb??

If you do, I admire you and if you don’t I’m secretly happy;).  I hear about homegrown tomatoes, chilies and fruits being so tasty and my friend even grows sugar cane, CRAZY…Why does it come so easy to some and here I am with a single leaf Banana tree which has been alive for 4 years with only couple of leaves present all the time.  I water it, ummm, maybe not all the time..But it hasn’t dried up on me yet, that’s the bright side.

Pepper Spiced Bread- Iyengar Bakery style Buns

May 12, 2013 By Asha Shivakumar

“The smell of good bread baking, like the sound of lightly flowing water, is indescribable in it’s evocation of innocence and delight”. M.F.K. Fisher
Pepper Spiced Bread Roll

Walking down a bakery creates a sensory overload, especially when we’ve had a long day.  Mom would come home in the evening  passing this Iyengar Bakery(a famous bakery in the southern part of India, which is still very famous for their special baked goods), and she often would buy the Masala Bun or Bread.  The two other members of the house were not fond of bread, then why?, I used to think then.  As time passed , I realized my mom loved a good hearty spicy bread/bun.
