Madras Kheema Curry

March 30, 2019 By Asha Shivakumar

Keema or Kheema Curry is a robust, peppery curry dish made with minced chicken or lamb cooked with earthy spices! It’s not the most well known dish, but to the people who’ve eaten this curry in Chennai know it’s worth. Serve this with dosa, idli or appam.  Enjoy a blissful meal.

Madras Kheema Curry |foodfashionparty| #kheema #chickencurryIf you’re like me and yearn to cook something different, hearty, homemade and comforting food with the thought of eating something to warm up your senses in any weather then this is just the excuse to stroke that indulgence.

Kheema is a traditional Indian dish made of spiced ground meat, usually combined with peas or potatoes. Usually made with chicken or lamb, however it’s also great with ground turkey or beef. This dish however is inspired by a recipe that was written in my diary twenty years ago.  It was called Madras Style Chicken Kurma that called for whole chicken….

bitter gourd curry/Paavakai Kozhumbu

March 9, 2019 By Asha Shivakumar

This bitter gourd curry is everything: tangy, spicy, sweet and sour and umami of flavors. Bitter gourd is also known as karela, paavakai, kakarakaya and more, is quite infamous for it’s bitterness.  A vegetable that is not liked by many has a ton of nutrients and healing properties. This is the only way I can eat the bittergourd curry and you will love it too.

Bitter gourd Curry/Paavakai Kozhumbu |foodfashionparty| #bittergourd #southindianrecipes

I would sit for hours and not touch this paavakai kozhumbu.  Dad would be right by my side, looking at me and coaxing me to at least try it.  Mum has already cleared out the table. We both, dad and I were adamant. He wanted me to eat a little and I didn’t have it. Mum would tell daddy, “it’s okay if she doesn’t want to eat it”.  He would respond, she needs to at least try it.  An hour and few mins in, he gets tired and realizes his little girl is a little bit more adamant than he is. After all who’s daughter is she and “I told you to leave her” was the look dad got from a smug faced mom:)….

Eggless Chocolate Sesame Yogurt Cake

March 6, 2019 By Asha Shivakumar

This truly is The Best Eggless Chocolate Cake Ever, and add sesame to it and it’s the best eggless chocolate sesame cake! The cake is supremely tender, moist, and bursting with a rich chocolate flavor with a rich nutty touch. Perfect for dinner parties, craving days or any celebration.

I am a sucker for simple flavors, attainable bakes and classic combos.

Simplicity.  Especially being a food blogger, I used to get lost sometimes in the hoopla of creating creative and fancy food.  Simplicity is somewhat forgotten.  I’m always puzzled when I get asked to make a chocolate cake or white chocolate tres leches for birthdays and dinner parties.  I fully respect the fancy food but I’ve come to see that people love simplicty(most of the time), and I love to create it with all my heart.  I found this recipe few years ago written in my diary which was copied from my mom’s book and have always followed it.  It hasn’t ever disappointed me….

Healthy Quinoa Granola

March 3, 2019 By Asha Shivakumar

This really is the best healthy granola recipe!  It’s quick and easy to make, naturally sweetened with (just a little) maple syrup, and so flavorful and delicious. Healthy Quinoa Granola is our new favorite.

Granola is always a huge hit in my house. My boys love stirring it into their froyos, my husband loves snacking on it at work and I love sprinkling it on top of my Greek yogurt.

I have been on a little bit of a health kick of late. I’ve completely kicked out sugar from my routine, trying more healthy stuff that is whole and natural.  To be honest, I’ve always been a healthy eater. I believe in eating everything in moderation. But, if you could swap some good stuff in your regular meals and snacks, why not?!   In fact I enjoy some of the whole grains more than the less nutritious counterpart….

Cauliflower Rice Balls/Arancini – Indian inspired

February 28, 2019 By Asha Shivakumar

Make the most of leftover rice and transform into a delicious dish.  This easy, healthy Italian inspired recipe for Cauliflower rice balls/Arancini (Rice Balls) mixed with cheese, potatoes, cauliflower is a meal in one.

Cauliflower Rice Balls/Arancini - Indian inspired |foodfashionparty| #arancini #indianfusionI wanted a perfect ending. I’ve learned, the hard way, that some poems don’t rhyme, and some stories don’t have a clear beginning, middle and end. Life is about not knowing, leaning into change, taking the moment and making the best of it without knowing what’s going to happen next. Delicious Ambiguity.
                                                                                                                                                                                                                      – Gilda Radner

I didn’t grown knowing Italian cuisine. When I first moved to San Francisco, my food and content was tailored to how my “former life” was, living with parents and family who loved and created the most amazing Indian dishes. Slowly, the Italian, American shows graced my regular television. Adding cheese to the unexpected, creating something new and changing direction can be daunting, but it’s also the best.  While keeping my roots intact….

Loaded Vegetable Skillet Enchilada

February 18, 2019 By Asha Shivakumar

Amazing vegetarian enchiladas stuffed with black beans, squash, corn and  topped with red sauce and cheese. My favorite vegetable enchilada recipe and it’s my shortcut method that is a winner of a meal.

Loaded Skillet Vegetable Enchilada |foodfashionparty| #veggieenchilada #enchiladasI’ve been on a roasted vegetable kick lately. I’ve made a omelettes, it goes in my burgers and now these enchiladas. For this recipe, I used yellow squash, corn and garlic. I also mixed in black beans for protein and jalapeño, cilantro, and spices for flavor.  I am forever looking for short cut methods and veggie options for weeknight dinners that can satisfy my carnivore loving little bear.  This fits the bill. Also a double whammy, because it comes together in no time….

Churro French Toast Sandwich with Hazelnut Spread |foodfashionparty| #churro #valentinesdaytreatWho doesn’t love churros?  Everyone loves them.  From scratch, even better.

The next best thing are these French Toast Churros sandwiches that I stuffed with Hazelnut spread and Peanut butter-jelly.

A few days ago, my little one asked me what I wanted for valentines and I said, “nothing much my dear.”  But, chocolate would be good.  Then he goes on to ask, “do you have a recipe on your blog that is simple one, so I can make it for you…”? Which was too sweet of him. He wanted to make churros for me(partly because he was craving it:)….
